What is Storm Water Awareness Week?

Join stormwater professionals from across the country for Storm Water Awareness Week, a week dedicated to education, collaboration, and sharing knowledge about stormwater management. Throughout the week, professionals from around the nation will host dozens of free virtual workshops covering a variety of stormwater topics. The webinars provide opportunities to learn from experts, explore current practices and challenges, and expand your understanding of stormwater management.

Why Stormwater Awareness Matters

When it rains, stormwater flows across roads, parking lots, lawns, and other surfaces before entering storm drains and local waterways. Along the way, runoff can pick up pollutants such as sediment, fertilizers, pesticides, oil, litter, and pet waste. Unlike wastewater from our homes, stormwater often enters local streams and waterways without receiving treatment.

Stormwater education helps communities understand how everyday activities can affect water quality and what we can all do to help protect our local waterways. Proper stormwater management also plays an important role in reducing pollution, protecting streams and aquatic habitats, managing runoff, and supporting healthier communities.
