Prince William County Earns a Pair of Awards for its Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association
Prince William County has once again earned two prestigious awards from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, or GFOA, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.
The GFOA, founded in 1906, is a professional association of more than 30,000 public finance officers in the United States and Canada that promotes excellence in financial reporting to benefit the public. The GFOA identifies and establishes best practices to help governments improve management, budgeting and operations.
The association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was established in 1945 to encourage local and state governments to go beyond the minimum requirements generally associated with government financial reporting. Prince William County received the certificate for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, or ACFR, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. The certificate is GFOA’s highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by the governing body, its management and contributing staff. This marks the 45th consecutive year the county has received the award.
The county’s ACFR provides a comprehensive look at its financial position, including revenues, expenditures and other financial information for the fiscal year.
Prince William County also earned the GFOA’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, or PAFR, for Fiscal Year 2025. The PAFR is designed for a broader audience than traditional financial reporting, presenting key financial information in a more accessible, easy-to-understand format.
GFOA established its PAFR Awards Program in 1991 to recognize governments that produce accessible, high-quality financial reports that promote transparency and full disclosure. This marks the 19th consecutive year the county has received this respected award.
